Pickens Projected Versus Actual Release
A projected release date is a calculation based on the sentence information and credits known at that point. SCDC policy also uses the term projected maxout date. Maxout is the expected end point of a prison term after the agency applies lawful sentence data and credits. Neither phrase records an event that has already happened. An actual release date is historical. It is entered after custody ends or changes hands.
For a person held before trial at the Pickens County Detention Center, there may be no calculated release date. A bond order may authorize release once its terms are met, but it does not prove when jail staff complete release processing. Another charge, detainer, or receiving agency can keep the person in custody. For a locally sentenced person, the court order and jail computation control. SCDC’s projected date should not be applied to a person serving only a county sentence.

Choose the Pickens Release System
South Carolina separates county, state, and federal custody data. Start with the person’s current custodian. The PCDC portal reports county booking and actual release fields, but no verified projected-date field. SCDC maintains a current incarcerated search and a separate search for people already released from state prison. Federal and immigration systems have their own locators. A person can leave Pickens custody as a transfer and still be confined elsewhere.

The current SCDC search is a prior-midnight snapshot. It expressly excludes released people, county sentences, probation, parole, other community supervision, juveniles, and current SCDC fugitives. Absence therefore means only that the person is not displayed as a current state prisoner in that data cycle.
Note: Identify the custodian first because county, state, federal, and immigration release dates come from different records.
Find a Pickens Projected Date
For a state prisoner, open the SCDC Incarcerated Inmate Search. Search by exact SCDC number or SID when known, or use the name fields. Confirm the person before reading any date. The public interface can change its label, so copy the precise wording displayed on the current detail rather than translating it into a firm release promise.
- Confirm whether the person is at PCDC, in SCDC, or with another agency. Read the Pickens portal’s Held For Agency field when a transfer is possible.
- For current SCDC custody, search by SCDC number or SID first. If only a name is known, compare age and other public identifiers.
- Open the detail and record the exact projected-release or projected-maxout label, along with the facility and sentence information shown.
- For a PCDC sentence, request the sentencing order, recognized jail credit, and jail computation. Ask whether terms run together or one after another.
- Check for a detainer, pending case, court amendment, or parole action that may affect the date or destination.
- Recheck near the date. After release, replace the estimate with the actual record from the releasing agency.

This search is for current state custody. It is not a historical Pickens County jail roster and should never be described as the released-person search.
SCDC Victim Services provides another official access channel. Its automated status line at 1-866-727-2846 accepts an offender name, SCDC number, or SID and can provide current location and a projected release date. Formal crime-victim notification for an SCDC person uses a separate process: call 1-800-835-0304 or 803-896-1733, request the form, return it for verification, and await confirmation. That route should not be confused with a general VINELink alert.
South Carolina Release Date Credits
A sound calculation starts with the controlling sentence and effective start date. Next come recognized presentence jail credit, concurrent or consecutive terms, mandatory minimums, the offense date, parole status, no-parole status, and any detainers. Concurrent terms run at the same time. Consecutive terms run one after another. Only after those points are settled can lawful credits be applied.
South Carolina Code §24-13-210 allows an eligible prisoner who is not serving a no-parole offense to earn good-conduct credit at twenty days for each month served when the statutory conduct standard is met. Section 24-13-230 governs work and education credits under its own rates and limits. Credits may be forfeited or restored through the lawful process. That is why the projected date can move forward or back.
Sections 24-13-100 and 24-13-150 apply South Carolina’s no-parole, truth-in-sentencing structure. A person serving a qualifying no-parole offense generally must serve at least 85 percent of the actual term before early release, discharge, or the community-supervision mechanism. Credits cannot move the date below that floor. The controlling offense, offense date, sentence, and version of the law must be checked for an individual record.
Section 24-21-560 adds another vital distinction. Covered no-parole sentences move into community supervision before final discharge, and the statute defines release date by SCDC’s computation from sentence and lawful credits. Thus, leaving prison at the applicable point can begin supervision while the sentence continues. It does not always mean the entire sentence has ended.
Note: A simplified percentage cannot replace SCDC’s calculation of exact dates, credits, sentence structure, and controlling law.
Pickens Parole Dates Are Different
Parole eligibility is a separate milestone. Under South Carolina Code §24-21-610, covered nonviolent sentences generally reach consideration after one-fourth of the term. Covered violent sentences generally use one-third or the mandatory minimum if longer. Special offenses and no-parole rules can override those fractions. Good behavior is not deducted when computing parole eligibility, although earned work credits receive the treatment the statute provides.
The Board can deny, grant, defer, or reschedule a case. Eligibility only opens the door to review. Even a grant may be followed by release-plan review, conditions, paperwork, and a detainer check. Use the official SCDPPPS hearing search for the Board result and the SCDC released search for the later custody event. If the person then enters Pickens County supervision, the SCDPPPS record addresses that next stage.
Why Pickens Release Dates Change
A projected date can change without an error in the search. It reflects the record then available to the custodian. Courts and records staff may later correct or add controlling information. Conduct credits can change. A new hold can change the destination even when the physical exit date remains close to the estimate.

No published Pickens County weekend or holiday early-release rule was found. No verified county good-time formula was found either. Ask PCDC for its written sentence-computation or release policy rather than importing a federal rule or another county’s practice.
For a local sentence, obtain the sentencing sheet or order from the Pickens Clerk of Court and the computation from PCDC. Ask which start date the jail used, how much presentence credit was recognized, and whether another case or hold affects release. If the public jail portal shows a later Release Date, that is an actual event field, not the future date that was once calculated. Request the release sheet when the exact time, release type, or receiving custodian matters.
The court record and jail record perform different functions. A bond order or amended sentence explains legal authority. Jail staff record the custody transaction. A court result alone cannot establish door time, and roster absence cannot establish community release. Comparing both records is especially important when the PCDC Held For Agency field identifies SCDC, another county, federal authority, or DHS/ICE.
Confirm Pickens Actual Release
After the expected day, switch from forecast sources to event records. Search the SCDC Released Inmate Search by release-date range and Pickens County. It displays ten results at a time and provides an Export option for more detail. That system covers state-prison releases associated with the county selection. It does not list every person released from PCDC.

A released row still needs context. Follow it with SCDPPPS when parole, community supervision, or supervised reentry may remain. For a PCDC event, call 864-898-5541 or request the release sheet and destination. A pending alert can be set through the Pickens VINELink inmate search, but VINE is not a certified release record. If an expected state result does not appear, allow for the prior-midnight data cycle, a spelling mismatch, or custody in another system. Search by the exact SCDC number or SID when possible. For an older actual event, widen the released-search date range and review all pages or the Export detail. Keep the projected date and actual date in separate fields when saving notes, since replacing one with the other can conceal why a sentence timeline changed.
